Ideal loop time: 10-12 minutes

Lunch Break is the photographic study of a men’s room located on the grounds of a state historic site in an oil refinery town on the outskirts of Houston. This site has become known to Texans as the birthplace of an independent Texas, marking the final battle of the Texas Revolution. Included in the slideshow are photographs of the surrounding town to emphasize how this particular park exists within the social landscape of Texas more broadly. The work aims to consider a state-run park whose ethos is based on the promise of freedom, by focusing on the brief, lunch-hour freedom of the people who find solace and connection in its obscure spaces.
